The series of VPN Routers will connect over the Internet by secure VPN tunnels. These tunnels are carried via Ethernet, WLAN or 3G/4G modems. When the VPN Router operates as a Firewall, it supports Internet via fiber, DSL or TV cables and uses those for the VPN tunnels. Installed as a Firewall it provides NAT functions and DNS services.
The VPN tunnels use OpenVPN and provide the latest strong encryption for security. They are built by OpenVPN via SSL/TLS and AES-256.

The complete configuration is managed by a service called SimpleVPN. The central Router (the Server) is used to build and deploy the configurations of all remote Routers (the Clients). All configurations are handled in one place for easy maintenance. Transfer to the target Routers is done via File Transfer or by a connected USB stick. Prior to the deployment the transfer is possible via Ethernet cables. The server router typically resides in the main or head office, while the clients are deployed to branch or even home offices. They all connect to the server, and this way data transfer is possible between all locations.

The VPN Router can establish the connection to the Internet for all devices, this is called the Firewall operation mode. The local network gets access to the Internet, and to the other offices via the VPN tunnels. There is no need to apply special configurations to individual computers.
The other mode of operation is named as VPN Gateway. The VPN Router is installed into the local network, und uses the existing Internet connection to start the VPN tunnel. Certain computers are configured to use the Gateway to communicate with the other offices. Without special configuration access to the other locations is not available.
